It was a bright sunny day - so much nicer than the wet, cold day before when I (Dave Machemer) was sloshing through two inches of water on a soggy construction site trying to find a dry spot to write. When my phone began to blow up about the insurrection, I "chose" not to let the latest insanity get to me. This was a good day and nothing was going to spoil it. 

Little did I know that, in itself, was my privilege at work. I spoke with Black friends with whom I had been bonding and found they felt no such luxury as I did to "tune it out". For them it could mean added trouble as soon as they left their home - maybe even life or death.

How can we learn to recognize our privilege? Where can we process and unpack it? Is there any way we can grow to be more effective allies with those who are most at risk and vulnerable? Together we will listen, learn, grapple and grow as a church community, empowered by God's Spirit at work among us to be his vessels for the world around us.
